Fall decoration + apple fritters

Ben and I are by ourselves for two weeks, since Noelle is taking part in a school exchange to the States.

For this reason I have somewhat lost the motivation to cook anything elaborate – it will be picked apart or not appreciated anyway :(.

So we eat simple and quick kiddie food – the apple rings dipped in yogurt dough and fried make a good lunch option or a delicious afternoon snack.
If desired, they can be enjoyed with vanilla ice-cream or vanilla sauce!

My fall decoration is rather minimalistic and quite classic this year – only the silver votives are new and – not like your typical blogger - I bought them locally.

The same time I found the votives I also discovered one of the most beautiful coffee table books that I have ever held in my own two hands:
"Move and work" allows you an inspiring glimpse into the 3 houses and the showroom of Malene Birger – the famous designer and founder of DayHome.
Malene’s style is informed by black and white contrasts and it comes with many ideas how to perfectly combine old and new, modern things with artisanal objects and elements from many countries.

A premium quality and exceptionally beautiful book – and a must-have for all aficionados of clean Scandinavian style.
(Well suited as a higher-value Christmas gift).

A few rose hip twigs and small decorative apples complement my decoration – everything else is already older, yet still pretty.
I can hardly get enough of the simple shape of the rose hips: it nearly resembles a sculpture, don’t you think?

I did order a few new things, too, but I will show them to you another time!

Apple Fritters

4 medium-size apples
1/2 lemon (juice)

1 ½ cups plain yogurt
4 Tbsp oil
2 eggs
1 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

¼ cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Oil for frying (sunflower or canola)

1. Mix yogurt, eggs and oil in one bowl; flour and baking powder and salt in another.
Add flour mix to yogurt mix spoon by spoon.

2. Peel apples and remove cores (I do this with the help of an apple corer, but you can also first cut slices and then remove the inside with a knife).
Cut slices of similar thickness (about 0.2”) and drizzle with lemon juice.

2. Heat oil in a casserole or frying pan – amount should allow apple rings to be able to float.
Dip each apple ring into the dough and fry in the oil until golden brown.
Meanwhile mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
Once the fritters are done, briefly place on a kitchen towel, then roll in the sugar-cinnamon mix.
Serve immediately.

The book "Move and Work" is available at Amazon.
(where you can also flip through it a little online).

Love,
Joanna

p.s.
The only things Noelle has so far informed me about are:
- everything “is very American. Exactly as you might expect it.” When asked what exactly she meant by that she replied:” It’s just American.”
- Heidi Klum does not only host "Project Runway", but also  "America's Next Top Model, Mama!"

So she’s doing great.
I think!
